A Signal of Peace in Korean Peninsula

Filed under: Uncategorized — Keynes @ 3:13 am

A North Korean train, carrying the country’s leader Kim Jong-Il, arrived at the Chinese city of Dandong, Yonhap news said. The news reported, the train is specially armed to protect the leader from a potential threaten. The final destination of the train has been supposed to Beijing, the capital of China.

Kim rarely takes a trip outside North Korea, isolated country. Many experts of international relations say this visit to China could mean North Korea’s return to the China-hosted international disarmament, including the issue of nuclear weapons program in the country.

I, personally, hope that this visit will be a signal of Korean Peninsula Denuclearization. In other words, if North Korea stops producing Nuclear weapon and rejoin Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), there would be a peaceful mood in the Korean Peninsula; and, in the entire Asia. There is no better value than peace in international relations. In terms of this viewpoint, I am expecting the result of the visit.

Eating Disorders

In a study done by the University of Montreal 10%-15% of women may have an eating disorder. In an article by Science Daily “Some 1,501 women took part in the phone survey on eating disorders and disordered eating. Not one participant was classified as anorexic.” Even though not one of these people was anorexic they still had some type of disorder such as binge eating. about 13.7% of these women reported that they have binge eaten on several occasion and 2.7% said they have at one point thrown up to lose some weight for an event. This seems horrible because the extreme measures to lose weight aren’t necessary. Women may see themselves as unhealthy because of the affects of society on todays women.

Surgery With Technology

On April 30th the first operation using a robot was carried out in the United Kingdom. The robot used allows the doctor to control the procedure using a robotic arm. This is exciting news because operations like this in the future can be much more precise because human coordination isn’t as precise as a robots. Also, this can provide protection for a doctor doing the procedure because in many procedures x-rays are used constantly and doctors are right next to them. But, if a robot is used, a doctor may keep his/her distance from the dangerous x-rays and be able to work more easily because a lead jacket does not need to be worn.

DropBox

Fellow readers meet dropbox, dropbox meet fellow Rhet 1302 students. So I have been using this storage provider throughout my freshman year and man, Dropbox has been quite the life and time saver.

This file hosting site is user-friendly and  is very convenient in backing up your valuable files like homework assignments and opening it anywhere you want. Signing up is relatively quick and the site is even nice enough to give you 2 gb free.  And the best thing about this file hosting provider is that it, once register, a folder is added into your desktop and it can automatically syncs the file you dragged in there to their servers.
And lets say you made a mistake a accidently deleted your file, well dropbox has a backup server that can revert that mistake and add that file back into your folders. Dropbox’s server will never fail on you, unlike the traditional USB flash drive where there is a potential risk of losing your data physically or internally.

So why should you get Dropbox? Because it’s like a virtual USB drive where you don’t actually have to carry it around. You can access all the files in your folder on any computer that has internet connection. Plus if you want to share an information to someone else, you could easily email them an uploaded link.

However the computer you are using to access that file must have internet connection, but the files saved on your Dropbox desktop folder doesn’t need internet connection to access them, only if you need it to synchronized to one of their servers. And 2gb is given free which is good, but if you need more space you must pay a monthly fee.

So give Dropbox a try and enjoy!

Taxing Sweetened Drinks

The drinking of sweetened drinks all over the nation has a direct link to heart disease, obesity, and many other conditions such as diabetes. Sugar sweetened beverages are everywhere we look and they are drinks that contain some type of natural sugar that increases caloric intake. In the New England Journal of Medicine it i stated that “33 states have sales taxes on soft drinks…” This is a step towards helping the economy out while helping people only to drink sodas and other sweetened drinks sparingly, or just less than they do now. A tax on sweetened drinks will cause less people to buy them while creating more income for governments to help out the community more. Since there is clear information and studies linking sugar-containing drinks to health conditions, the government stepping forward and doing something about it may be necessary for the safety of the people. If many people are not able to control themselves when it comes to caloric intake, then the government will have to do it for them.

Eevee

Filed under: Uncategorized — tranasaurus @ 10:24 pm

What is your favorite eeveelution?

(polls)

Don’t ask me to pick a favorite, because I just can’t do it. All the members of the eevee family are just too awesome in their own way.

The cutie. Although not a great fighter, eevee is too adorable to ignore and is sure to brighten anyone’s day.

The speed demon. Jolteon uses the static electricity generated by its fur to drop thunderbolts.

The fish. Vaporeon’s tail is often mistaken for a mermaid. Vaporeon can become perfectly invisble in the water.

The hothead. Flareon can breathe flames hot enough to melt steel.

The blacksheep. The rings on Umbreon’s body glow as it leaps to attack.

The psychic. Espeon is able to predict the moves of its opponents.

The tree hugger. Leafeon is able to perform photosynthesis and can purify the air surrounding it.

The cool kid. Glaceon can freeze the atmosphere surrounding it.

Cheating 101

So this a simple do-it-yourself instruction for a pretty clever way to create a cheat sheet. Admittedly it’s pretty ingenious, but i don’t promote cheating!

So, basically you just carefully peel the panel of coke label and scan the label into your computer. Using photoshop or any imaging software, delete the content on the label and add equations of other information needed for an upcoming exam. Then just take that label, with the proper size, and print it out using photo paper or gloss paper.

But I doubt anyone would spend the numerous amount of time building this when you could use that time to study instead. :]

Super Mario Crossover

WOW! This has got to be the best game remake ever! I’ve been playing this game for hours and I have to admit that this game is pretty fun.
So this game is a recreation of the entire classic Super Mario Bros 3 version from the Nintendo. However it includes a twist that allows the user to play with other classic characters from the Nintendo games series. Each character plays just like they do in their original gmaes but with a few modification to make the experience better. It even includes their their very own SOUNDTRACK.

I am just simply amazing at the game play and it surely invokes that nostalgic feeling when I first received my Nintendo. Ah the good ‘ol days.

Warning this game is pretty addicting!

Gorilla Glasses

So Rotterdam Zoo is giving away cardboard glasses that make it appear as if your looking off to one side. These gorilla glasses were meant to avoid incidents which gorillas attack visitors for making eye contact with them.

Wow that’s a pretty nifty device and I can see that you can use this invention for something else too. Lets say…starting at  a person you find to be quite attractive. However that person probably thinks your a weirdo for wearing that glasses in the first place so use it wisely.

I thought this was a nifty invention and wanted to share with you guys, enjoy!

493 and counting

Filed under: Uncategorized — tranasaurus @ 7:53 pm

I applaude anyone who has caught all 493 pokemon, but don’t put away your pokedex just yet. Nintendo just revealed the fifth generation, called Pokemon Black and White.

First off, the graphics look fantastic. The buildings, the streets, the new angles, and especially the new battle view all take advantage of the 3D capabilities of the DS, yet the game still looks like a Pokemon game.

I’m not sure about any new features in the game, but I’m speculating that there will be a new mini game of some sort similar to contests or the pokeathlon or the underground. There might also be a new gadget like the Pokegear, but I hope it does not come with a cell phone plan.

Speaking of improvements, I would like to see more customization in the game. Something like changing your hat or color scheme, nothing too big. Or perhaps a story line where you play team rocket. What would you guys like to see in future pokemon games?
