Diabetes

Diabetes Type II is becoming more prevalent in the U.S. as time goes on. Type II diabetes is when your body cannot produce the amount of insulin you need to lower glucose levels in your body or your cells stop responding to insulin produced by the pancreas. According to http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/362/6/548, “The lifetime risk of type 2 diabetes is now more than one in three in the general U.S. population, and one in six adolescents is now obese…” I finds this to be really terrible news because this means our population is moving more to fast food than ever, but there are reasons for this. Fast food is cheap and widely available, not only this but healthy foods are much more expensive. This leads people to choose between spending lots of money to eat healthy or just spend a couple dollars to get food and save money for what they believe are more important things. But, whatever the case youths need to be educated about staying active and eating healthy as early as possible so this increase in diabetes type II will be stopped.
