From Asteriod, to Zelda Pt. 9

Hello FATZ readers, welcome back. This week I’m going to talk the subject of my upcoming research paper, are video games art? As video games have progressed over the years and the graphics have improved the debate has been risen. Here I want to state my opinion on that matter.

I believe that they are art. There are concept artists who work on the basic artistic design of the game. They make artistic choices as to what they want the game to look like. Then there are the 3D artists who then take the concept art and turn it into digital model, similar to sculpting. It’s art inspiring more art. Also with video games you have to look more than once to see everything, just like real art.

This is just my opinion from what I’ve seen and read in a few articles but this is a debate that is steadily growing in relevance to more than just gamers. So till next week, happy gaming readers!

This week I’m playing: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)

  1. I think you are correct. Some video games are definately and art, just as much as stroytelling is an art. However, I find little artistic value in Super Monkey Ball (One of my favorite games btw). I might be wrong though…
